What if my baby missed their 2-week newborn period to book a newborn session? Baby session at Kidi P

It is widely known that the best moment to have your newborn baby’s photos done is between their 4th and 14th day of life. It’s that magical time when babies tend to sleep for longer stretches and are keen to pose in those womb mimicking poses as their bodies keep going back to the shapes they’ve been so comfortable in for the past 9 months. Admittedly, it’s a blink of an eye before they’re over 2 weeks old and it’s incredibly easy to miss out on a newborn photo session especially if you don’t pre-book your baby’s session in advance. But with life being a constant wave of surprises even a pre-booked session can be missed and this is where a professional photographer’s skills come into action!

The main reason why newborn sessions are booked so early on is because once they’re 3-4 weeks old they start to lose their womb-like reflexes and start practising stretching out their arms and legs making posing much more challenging. They’re sleeping pattern is also likely to change around that time and growth spurts are about to kick in disrupting anything that seems to be constant and predictable. This all combined makes posing near impossible and even an experienced photographer can find it difficult to work around.

Being a mum to three children and having missed out on my eldest newborn photos I made it my goal to work towards creating a reliable posing routine for babes up to three months old! My eldest missed out on an opportunity to have her photos done when she was tiny and on top of all the stress and pain I had to face the disappointment of not having her photographs captured to look back at. To me knowing I will have no professional photographs to show her later on in life and for myself to look back at once she’s all grown and independent, is truly heartbreaking! My personal struggles only added to my motivation and after years of practising, I can now confidently offer a photo session for older babies, capturing their beautiful baby appearance in professional photographs!

Naturally, as babies grow and change, the way they can be safely posed changes as well. This, in the consequence, creates a truly unique gallery of photographs, typical in style for babies between 3 weeks and 4 months of age. You won’t see so many sleeping poses there (although those can also happen even with babies over 6 months old!) but what you can count on is a gallery of photographs capturing gorgeously curious looks, most adorable attempts at lifting the head up and more than one cheeky smile!

With baby photo sessions I always encourage parents to join in the photoshoot with their baby. There's no better time than now and these photographs will create truly heartwarming keepsakes for you and your baby for years to come! Mums often find it disheartening to join in the shoot with their baby soon after delivery and for this reason, many of my newborn sessions don’t include parent & baby portraits. But with an older baby mums are often more rested and relaxed (having had more time to adjust to the new reality and heal after delivery) and are more keen to join in the photos. Trust me, even if you don’t feel at your best, you will look back at these photographs with a huge sentiment!

You may also wonder, with your baby being older whether a photographer specialising in newborn photography will actually be able to provide props and outfits to cater for older models. I will happily put you at ease in this matter, being a serious prop addict I can offer an extensive range of props and outfits in every colour of the rainbow (quite literally!). My impressive stash of props and accessories is my personal pride and I’m always incredibly happy when I can effortlessly provide parents with exactly what they looked for.

I hope that with everything said above I managed to reassure you that even if you didn’t get to book a newborn session you can still book your baby in for a baby session to preserve those special early moments in their life. If you have any questions at all, feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to help! I know very well how important these early experiences as a parent are and how fragile these first weeks after the baby’s arrival can be. You can rest assured I am trained and experienced in my trade to provide you with the top quality photography service at any stage of your family’s life.
